Archaeologists discovered a series of deposits in the interior of the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan in Mexico. The team of researchers announced their findings after exploring the 65-metre high pyramid from 2008 to 2011.
Using the 116 metre long tunnel excavated in the 1930s by archaeologist Eduardo Noguera, the Pyramid of the Sun Project, directed by Alejandro Sarabia, stratigraphically excavated 59 trenches and created 3 short tunnels in order to reach the natural rock level and verify the presence of burials and offerings.
“We knew that if the builders of Teotihuacan placed something inside the monument it would have been done at the base level, so we made a vertical shaft at the end of the tunnel and a short horizontal tunnel to reach the centre of the pyramid, since the original tunnel was cut approximately 6 metres to the west of the centre of the monument”, commented team member Perez Cortes.

Comalcalco ruin – where the find was made
Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History now says Mayan ruins show a second reference to the apocalypse occurring in 2012 but said that rumors of the world ending late next year were a Western misinterpretation.
On Thursday, the institute released a statement saying that the date of the apocalypse had been found on the carved or molded face of a brick at the Comalcalco ruin in the southern part of the country.
Most experts had previously said there was only one reference in Mayan glyphs, a stone tablet from the Tortuguero site in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco.
Arturo Mendez, an institute spokesman, said the fragment known as the Comalcalco Brick had been found years ago and studied thoroughly. It is not on display and is kept in storage.
The Tortuguero and Comalcalco inscriptions were probably carved about 1,300 years ago.
The Mexican institute cautioned Thursday that “Western messianic thought has twisted the cosmovision of ancient civilizations like the Maya.” Its experts said that the Mayas believed that time started and ended with regularity, with nothing apocalyptic occurring at the end.
The institute plans to hold a meeting of Mayan experts next week to “dispel some of the doubts about the end of one era and the beginning of another, in the Mayan Long Count calendar.”

Strange “Non-Human” Mummy Found in peru
Today Renato Davila Riquelme, an anthropologist that works for the Privado Ritos Andinos museum in Cusco, announced the findings of the strange and freaky mummy you see before you. The remains, which are 50cm [20 inches] tall, were thought to be those of a child until Spanish and Russian doctors said otherwise:
“It has a non-human appearance because the head is triangular and big, almost the same size as the body. At first we believed it to be a child’s body until Spanish and Russian doctors came and confirmed that, yes, it’s an extraterrestrial being.”

The folks over at Mexican architecture group BNKR Arquitectura call this thing an “earthscraper,” and the reason why should be obvious: it’s a monstrous, beautiful, 65-story inverted skyscraper that hides a mini city underground.
Planet X / Nibiru, the Annunaki and the upcoming Doom
There’s talk on the web about an object from outer space that in the near future will be in close proximity with Earth. This object is called Nibiru a rogue planet (often called Planet X).Some say that nibiru is inhabited by a race called the Annunaki. Genetic research confirms that non-Africans are part Neanderthal
Some of the human X chromosome originates from Neanderthals and is found exclusively in people outside Africa, according to an international team of researchers led by Damian Labuda of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Montreal and the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center. Mexico unearths monolith of Aztec God
Archaeologists in Mexico made a dramatic discovery in the state of Morelos when they uncovered an 8th century monolith featuring an Aztec God weighing 60 tonnes.
With agricultural images engraved on its side, the massive stone is believed to have been used by the Aztecs to call on the god of rain.
“These signs on the rock are fundamentally associated with agriculture and water. We think it’s highly probable that it (the monolith) was used during rituals to ask for rain and it was placed in a position facing Popocatepetl,” said archaeologist Raul Gonzalez.
With the ritual stone also bearing the image of the Aztec god Tlaloc, experts are connecting the massive monolith to the nearby archaeological site of Xochicalco.
“We have numbered them (hieroglyphics) all and those we have been able to decipher include a corn figure and one of Tlaloc,” added Gonzalez. “We also have others which are anthropomorphous and others which are amorphous, which are four-legged animals. We don’t know the exact definition or what they represent but they are there.”
Reforma newspaper reports that construction workers building a shopping centre in the area first encountered the priceless artefact and notified authorities.
Further investigations by Mexico’s Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) unearthed the massive monolith near a highway connecting to the nearby city Cuautla. The scientists hope the 60-tonne monolith will have its final resting place at the UNESCO-listed Xochicalco zone.
The Aztecs, a warlike and deeply religious people who built monumental works, ruled an empire stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean – encompassing much of modern-day central Mexico.
Their often bloody reign ended when they were subjugated in 1521 by the Spanish, led by Hernan Cortes.
A Lost World? Atlantis-Like Landscape Discovered
Buried deep beneath the sediment of the North Atlantic Ocean lies an ancient, lost landscape with furrows cut by rivers and peaks that once belonged to mountains. Geologists recently discovered this roughly 56-million-year-old landscape using data gathered for oil companies.
“It looks for all the world like a map of a bit of a country onshore,” said Nicky White, the senior researcher. “It is like an ancient fossil landscape preserved 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) beneath the seabed.”
So far, the data have revealed a landscape about 3,861 square miles (10,000 square km) west of the Orkney-Shetland Islands that stretched above sea level by almost as much as 0.6 miles (1 km). White and colleagues suspect it is part of a larger region that merged with what is now Scotland and may have extended toward Norway in a hot, prehuman world.
History beneath the seafloor
The discovery emerged from data collected by a seismic contracting company using an advanced echo-sounding technique. High pressured air is released from metal cylinders, producing sound waves that travel to the ocean floor and beneath it, through layers of sediment. Every time these sound waves encounter a change in the material through which they are traveling, say, from mudstone to sandstone, an echo bounces back. Microphones trailing behind the ship on cables record these echoes, and the information they contain can be used to construct three-dimensional images of the sedimentary rock below, explained White, a geologist at the University of Cambridge in Britain.
The team, led by Ross Hartley, a graduate student at the University of Cambridge, found a wrinkly layer 1.2 miles (2 km) beneath the seafloor — evidence of the buried landscape, reminiscent of the mythical lost Atlantis.
The researchers traced eight major rivers, and core samples, taken from the rock beneath the ocean floor, revealed pollen and coal, evidence of land-dwelling life. But above and below these deposits, they found evidence of a marine environment, including tiny fossils, indicating the land rose above the sea and then subsided — “like a terrestrial sandwich with marine bread,” White said.
The burning scientific question, according to White, is what made this landscape rise up, then subside within 2.5 million years? “From a geological perspective, that is a very short period of time,” he said.
The giant hot ripple
He and colleagues have a theory pointing to an upwelling of material through the Earth’s mantle beneath the North Atlantic Ocean called the Icelandic Plume. (The plume is centered under Iceland.)
The plume works like a pipe carrying hot magma from deep within the Earth to right below the surface, where it spreads out like a giant mushroom, according to White. Sometimes the material is unusually hot, and it spreads out in a giant hot ripple.
The researchers believe that such a giant hot ripple pushed the lost landscape above the North Atlantic, then as the ripple passed, the land fell back beneath the ocean.
This theory is supported by other new research showing that the chemical composition of rocks in the V-shaped ridges on the ocean floor around Iceland contains a record of hot magma surges like this one. Although this study, led by Heather Poore, also one of White’s students, looked back only about 30 million years, White said he is hopeful ongoing research will pinpoint an older ridge that recorded this particular hot ripple.
Because similar processes have occurred elsewhere on the planet, there are likely many other lost landscapes like this one. Since this study was completed, the researchers have found two more recent, but less spectacular, submerged landscapes above the first one, White said.
Both studies appear today (July 10) in the journal Nature Geoscience.
