Thanks to the drought, which is causing lakes to dry up in Texas, authorities in Nacogdoches have uncovered what may be a part of the space shuttle Columbia in Lake Nacogdoches.

“The lower water level has exposed a larger than normal area on the northern side of the lake,” said NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell. “A large round object became visible, and it is very possible that it is part of Columbia.”

Officials with the Nacogdoches police took pictures of the object, described as being 4-feet in diameter and full of mud, and sent them off to NASA.

Columbia broke-up on re-entry over North Texas in February 2003, killing seven astronauts and leaving a trail of debris from North Texas to Louisiana.

“We want to remind everyone that the rules are the same as they were back in 2003. If this object is indeed a part of the shuttle, it is government property, and it is a criminal offense to tamper with it,” Sowell said.

Nacogdoches authorities are awaiting instructions from NASA on recovery of the item.

Vatican launches Home Exorcism Kit

Pope Benedict XVI has given his seal of approval for a special self-exorcism kit that members of the general public can use to tackle their own personal demons.

The kit, comprising of bell, book and candle, plus a special phial of holy water blessed by the Pope himself, will be available from the Vatican home shopping channel, QVC, Quality Value Catholicism.

The launch of the kit is seen as a response to a rising number of possessions that are putting Vatican emergency services under strain.

The chupacabra

The chupacabra is rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas. It is associated more recently with sightings of an allegedly unknown animal in Puerto Rico (where these sightings were first reported), United States and the mexico, especially in the Latin communities. The name comes from the animal’s reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of  livestock especially goats. Chupar to “suck and cabra goat “ meaning to suck goat”.
Descriptions of the creature vary. Eyewitness sightings have been claimed as early as 1995 in Puerto Rico, and have since been reported as far north as Main and as far south as Chile. It is supposedly a heavy creature, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail.

Biologists and wildlife management officials view the chupacabras as a contemporay legend.

July 2010, an animal was killed and reported to be a chupacabra, but found to be a coyote with a severe parasite infection. In October of that year, University of Michigan scientists theorised that parasite-riddled coyotoes (specifically the parasites responsible for scabies andmange) were likely the basis for the chupacabra legend.
